{"id":451,"date":"2025-07-23T03:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-23T09:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/reflectivebiblestudy.com\/gospeladventure\/?p=451&2025"},"modified":"2025-07-21T18:00:28","modified_gmt":"2025-07-22T00:00:28","slug":"afraid-to-ask-luke-9-43b-45","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reflectivebiblestudy.com\/gospeladventure\/afraid-to-ask-luke-9-43b-45\/","title":{"rendered":"Afraid to Ask: Luke 9:43b-45"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"spoiler spoiler-style-2\"><div class=\"spoiler-title\">Focus Passage: Luke 9:43-45 (NASB)<\/div><div class=\"spoiler-content\" style=\"display: none;\"><p><sup>43a<\/sup>\u00a0And they were all amazed at the greatness of God.<\/p><p> <sup>43b<\/sup>\u00a0But while everyone was marveling at all that He was doing, He said to His disciples, <sup>44<\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"red-letter\">&#8220;Let these words sink into your ears; for the Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men.&#8221;<\/span> <sup>45<\/sup>\u00a0But they did not understand this statement, and it was concealed from them so that they would not perceive it; and they were afraid to ask Him about this statement.<\/p><p class=\"passage-read-more\">Read <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=luke 9:43-45&amp;version=NASB\" title=\"Read the passage on BibleGateway.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"hyperlink-underlined\">Luke 9:43-45<\/a> in context and\/or in other translations on BibleGateway.com!<\/p><\/div><\/div>\r\n<p>While our passage for this entry is a short one, it includes some very profound thoughts. While reading it, a phrase stood out to me that can easily describe many people living not only during the disciples in the first century, but also for us living today.<\/p>\r\n<p>The phrase comes at the end of verse 45, where we read, \u201c<strong>and they <\/strong>[the disciples]<strong> were afraid to ask Him <\/strong>[Jesus]<strong> about this statement.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p>While this passage says that the meaning of the message Jesus shared with them was hidden from the disciples, there was a part in each disciples\u2019 mind that understood some of what Jesus was saying, but they were afraid to ask deeper to understand more.<\/p>\r\n<p>Was the meaning hidden from them <em>because<\/em> they were afraid to ask? Perhaps.<\/p>\r\n<p>If the disciples had instead chosen to ask clarifying questions, dig deeper into what Jesus was trying to warn them about, then perhaps they could have discovered what was going to happen over the crucifixion week and not been as shocked when it does happen.<\/p>\r\n<p>However, I am also reminded about myself and those of us living today. Seeing how the disciples were afraid to ask Jesus to help them understand makes me wonder if there is anything that I am afraid of asking Jesus\/God\/The Holy Spirit to help me understand.<\/p>\r\n<p>By asking questions and seeking to understand, walls are broken down between people groups, and life becomes less about \u201cus vs. them\u201d and more about creating community. Sure, once we understand the other group\u2019s view, we don\u2019t have to agree with them, but understanding their thoughts helps us be kinder towards them.<\/p>\r\n<p>I\u2019m sure that God has incredible truth He is just waiting to help me uncover \u2013 but it will only happen if I chose to open my mind to what the Holy Spirit wants me to focus on, and <strong>the only way to get there is by pushing past the fear and simply ask!<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<div id=\"aj-wrap-up--451\" class=\"aj-wrap-up\"><p><em>This thought was inspired by studying the <strong>Walking With Jesus<\/strong> \u201cReflective Bible Study\u201d package.
