{"id":396,"date":"2025-02-19T03:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-02-19T10:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/reflectivebiblestudy.com\/gospeladventure\/?p=396&2025"},"modified":"2025-02-17T21:38:15","modified_gmt":"2025-02-18T04:38:15","slug":"remembering-to-thank-god-luke-17-11-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reflectivebiblestudy.com\/gospeladventure\/remembering-to-thank-god-luke-17-11-19\/","title":{"rendered":"Remembering to Thank God: Luke 17:11-19"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"spoiler spoiler-style-2\"><div class=\"spoiler-title\">Focus Passage: Luke 17:11-19 (NASB)<\/div><div class=\"spoiler-content\" style=\"display: none;\"><p><sup>11<\/sup>\u00a0While He was on the way to Jerusalem, He was passing between Samaria and Galilee. <sup>12<\/sup>\u00a0As He entered a village, ten leprous men who stood at a distance met Him; <sup>13<\/sup>\u00a0and they raised their voices, saying, &#8220;Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!&#8221; <sup>14<\/sup>\u00a0When He saw them, He said to them, <span class=\"red-letter\">&#8220;Go and show yourselves to the priests.&#8221;<\/span> And as they were going, they were cleansed. <sup>15<\/sup>\u00a0Now one of them, when he saw that he had been healed, turned back, glorifying God with a loud voice, <sup>16<\/sup>\u00a0and he fell on his face at His feet, giving thanks to Him. And he was a Samaritan. <sup>17<\/sup>\u00a0Then Jesus answered and said, <span class=\"red-letter\">&#8220;Were there not ten cleansed? But the nine&mdash;where are they?<\/span> <sup>18<\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"red-letter\">Was no one found who returned to give glory to God, except this foreigner?&#8221;<\/span> <sup>19<\/sup>\u00a0And He said to him, <span class=\"red-letter\">&#8220;Stand up and go; your faith <span class=\"tooltiptrigger\">*<\/span><span class=\"tooltip\">Lit <em>has saved you<\/em><\/span>has made you well.&#8221;<\/span> <\/p><p class=\"passage-read-more\">Read <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=luke 17:11-19&amp;version=NASB\" title=\"Read the passage on BibleGateway.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"hyperlink-underlined\">Luke 17:11-19<\/a> in context and\/or in other translations on BibleGateway.com!<\/p><\/div><\/div>\r\n<p>Tucked away in this healing is a glimpse of what God is like. From all of Jesus\u2019 healing, we can see a picture of God as loving, kind, serving, and helping those in need, but in this passage and in this healing, we get another piece of God\u2019s character showed to us. This truth comes both from what is said in the gospel record and from what is not.<\/p>\r\n<p>The event begins with ten lepers calling out to Jesus for healing. Jesus tells all ten to go show themselves to the priests, and they all begin running to see the priest. As they were going, they realized that they had been healed, and one turns back to thank Jesus personally. Jesus then makes the comment about how only one returned to give thanks and glory to God, <strong>\u201cBut the nine\u2014where are they? Was no one found who returned to give glory to God, except this foreigner?\u201d<\/strong> <em>(Verse 17b-18)<\/em> <\/p>\r\n<p>Hidden in this healing is another picture of God. With these ten lepers, God was willing to heal them simply because they asked, regardless of whether they came back to thank Jesus. We can easily see this because 90% of them did not return, but the fact that they went and that they realized they were healed, and they would then be declared clean by the priest who would confirm the healing.<\/p>\r\n<p>Jesus commends the former leper who returned to give thanks, but nowhere do we see that the healing was dependent on returning to give thanks. All ten former lepers had faith because they all chose to obey Jesus and go to the priest.<\/p>\r\n<p>This brings me to the big thought for this post: <strong>God appreciates our thanks when He does things for us.
