{"id":271,"date":"2023-08-30T03:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-08-30T09:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/reflectivebiblestudy.com\/gospeladventure\/?p=271&2023"},"modified":"2023-08-28T18:01:58","modified_gmt":"2023-08-29T00:01:58","slug":"being-on-the-lookout-john-7-10-24","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reflectivebiblestudy.com\/gospeladventure\/being-on-the-lookout-john-7-10-24\/","title":{"rendered":"Being on the Lookout: John 7:10-24"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"spoiler spoiler-style-2\"><div class=\"spoiler-title\">Focus Passage: John 7:10-24 (NASB)<\/div><div class=\"spoiler-content\" style=\"display: none;\"><p><sup>10<\/sup>\u00a0But when His brothers had gone up to the feast, then He Himself also went up, not publicly, but as if, in secret. <sup>11<\/sup>\u00a0So the Jews were seeking Him at the feast and were saying, &#8220;Where is He?&#8221; <sup>12<\/sup>\u00a0There was much grumbling among the crowds concerning Him; some were saying, &#8220;He is a good man&#8221;; others were saying, &#8220;No, on the contrary, He leads the people astray.&#8221; <sup>13<\/sup>\u00a0Yet no one was speaking openly of Him for fear of the Jews. <\/p><p><sup>14<\/sup>\u00a0But when it was now the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and <em>began to<\/em> teach. <sup>15<\/sup>\u00a0The Jews then were astonished, saying, &#8220;How has this man become learned, having never been educated?&#8221; <sup>16<\/sup>\u00a0So Jesus answered them and said, <span class=\"red-letter\">&#8220;My teaching is not Mine, but His who sent Me.<\/span> <sup>17<\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"red-letter\">If anyone is willing to do His will, he will know of the teaching, whether it is of God or <em>whether<\/em> I speak from Myself.<\/span> <sup>18<\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"red-letter\">He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who is seeking the glory of the One who sent Him, He is true, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.<\/span> <\/p><p><sup>19<\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"red-letter\">&#8220;Did not Moses give you the Law, and <em>yet<\/em> none of you carries out the Law? Why do you seek to kill Me?&#8221;<\/span> <sup>20<\/sup>\u00a0The crowd answered, &#8220;You have a demon! Who seeks to kill You?&#8221; <sup>21<\/sup>\u00a0Jesus answered them, <span class=\"red-letter\">&#8220;I did one deed, and you all marvel.<\/span> <sup>22<\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"red-letter\">For this reason Moses has given you circumcision (not because it is from Moses, but from the fathers), and on <em>the<\/em> Sabbath you circumcise a man.<\/span> <sup>23<\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"red-letter\">If a man receives circumcision on <em>the<\/em> Sabbath so that the Law of Moses will not be broken, are you angry with Me because I made an entire man well on <em>the<\/em> Sabbath?<\/span> <sup>24<\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"red-letter\">Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.&#8221;<\/span> <\/p><p class=\"passage-read-more\">Read <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=john 7:10-24&amp;version=NASB\" title=\"Read the passage on BibleGateway.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"hyperlink-underlined\">John 7:10-24<\/a> in context and\/or in other translations on BibleGateway.com!<\/p><\/div><\/div>\r\n<p>Every so often, something included or implied within a passage in the Bible appears odd to me. There is one place like this passage, and it isn\u2019t directly stated, but it is implied. With all the popularity Jesus had, He was able to sneak into Jerusalem, and also into the temple \u2013 when everyone was looking for Him.<\/p>\r\n<p>Jesus was probably the most famous person in the whole region at that time, and He is able to sneak around in one of the most crowded places in the region <em>(Jerusalem during a festival)<\/em> along with His group of disciples.<\/p>\r\n<p><em>How was this possible?<\/em><\/p>\r\n<p><em>Did the Holy Spirit hide them from people\u2019s eyes or recognition? <\/em>Maybe, but there is nothing in the Bible text that implies this.<\/p>\r\n<p>What most likely happened is that once people began to think Jesus wouldn\u2019t show up, they stopped looking. When they stopped looking, they missed seeing Jesus as He entered Jerusalem and made His way to the temple.<\/p>\r\n<p>This brings up an important and significant point: <strong>Often Jesus shows up in unexpected ways and\/or at unexpected times. Always be on the lookout for Him so you don\u2019t miss seeing Him.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>Too often, when we stop looking for something\/someone, we end up missing out on what we were hoping to experience. Not only was this true for those in Jerusalem, it is true for us today.<\/p>\r\n<p><em>Don\u2019t give up looking for Jesus.
