At the same time a poor person comes in wearing old, dirty clothes.<sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>You show special attention to the one wearing nice clothes and say, \u201cPlease, sit here in this good seat.\u201d But you say to the poor person, \u201cStand over there,\u201d or, \u201cSit on the floor by my feet.\u201d\u00a0<sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>What are you doing? You are making some people more important than others, and with evil thoughts you are deciding that one person is better.<\/p>\r\n<p><sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>Listen, my dear brothers and sisters! God chose the poor in the world to be rich with faith and to receive the kingdom God promised to those who love him.\u00a0<sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>But you show no respect to the poor. The rich are always trying to control your lives. They are the ones who take you to court.\u00a0<sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>And they are the ones who speak against Jesus, who owns you.<\/p>\r\n<p><sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>This royal law is found in the Scriptures: \u201cLove your neighbor as you love yourself.\u201d\u00a0If you obey this law, you are doing right.\u00a0<sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>But if you treat one person as being more important than another, you are sinning. You are guilty of breaking God\u2019s law.\u00a0<sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>A person who follows all of God\u2019s law but fails to obey even one command is guilty of breaking all the commands in that law.\u00a0<sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>The same God who said, \u201cYou must not be guilty of adultery,\u201d also said, \u201cYou must not murder anyone.\u201d\u00a0So if you do not take part in adultery but you murder someone, you are guilty of breaking all of God\u2019s law.<sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>In everything you say and do, remember that you will be judged by the law that makes people free.\u00a0<sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>So you must show mercy to others, or God will not show mercy to you when he judges you.
