He had torn his clothes and  put dirt on his head to show that he was in mourning. He fell to the ground  before David in deep respect.<\/p>\r\n<p><sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cWhere  have you come from?\u201d David asked.<\/p>\r\n<p>\u201cI escaped from the Israelite camp,\u201d the man replied.<\/p>\r\n<p><sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cWhat  happened?\u201d David demanded. \u201cTell me how the battle went.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p>The man replied, \u201cOur entire army fled from the battle. Many  of the men are dead, and Saul and his son Jonathan are also dead.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p><sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cHow  do you know Saul and Jonathan are dead?\u201d David demanded of the young man.<\/p>\r\n<p><sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>The  man answered, \u201cI happened to be on Mount Gilboa, and there was Saul leaning on  his spear with the enemy chariots and charioteers closing in on him. <sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>When he  turned and saw me, he cried out for me to come to him. \u2018How can I help?\u2019 I  asked him.<\/p>\r\n<p><sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cHe  responded, \u2018Who are you?\u2019<\/p>\r\n<p>\u201c\u2018I am an Amalekite,\u2019 I told him.<\/p>\r\n<p><sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cThen  he begged me, \u2018Come over here and put me out of my misery, for I am in terrible  pain and want to die.\u2019<\/p>\r\n<p><sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cSo  I killed him,\u201d the Amalekite told David, \u201cfor I knew he couldn\u2019t live. Then I  took his crown and his armband, and I have brought them here to you, my lord.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p><sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>David  and his men tore their clothes in sorrow when they heard the news. <sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>They  mourned and wept and fasted all day for Saul and his son Jonathan, and for the Lord\u2019s  army and the nation of Israel, because they had died by the sword that day.<\/p>\r\n<p><sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>Then  David said to the young man who had brought the news, \u201cWhere are you from?\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p>And he replied, \u201cI am a foreigner, an Amalekite, who lives  in your land.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p><sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cWhy  were you not afraid to kill the Lord\u2019s anointed one?\u201d David asked.<\/p>\r\n<p><sup>15\u00a0<\/sup>Then  David said to one of his men, \u201cKill him!\u201d So the man thrust his sword into the  Amalekite and killed him. <sup>16\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cYou  have condemned yourself,\u201d David said, \u201cfor you yourself confessed that you  killed the Lord\u2019s anointed one.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"passage-read-more\">Read <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=2 Samuel 1:1-16&#038;version=NLT\" title=\"Read the passage on BibleGateway.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"hyperlink-underlined\">2 Samuel 1:1-16<\/a> in context and\/or in other translations on BibleGateway.com!<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div><p>In this journal entry, Camden and Suzie discuss their thoughts on a passage from the book of 2 Samuel.
