{"id":150,"date":"2022-06-08T03:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-06-08T09:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/reflectivebiblestudy.com\/gospeladventure\/?p=150&2022"},"modified":"2022-06-06T18:00:14","modified_gmt":"2022-06-07T00:00:14","slug":"does-jesus-know-you-luke-13-22-30","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reflectivebiblestudy.com\/gospeladventure\/does-jesus-know-you-luke-13-22-30\/","title":{"rendered":"Does Jesus Know You: Luke 13:22-30"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"spoiler spoiler-style-2\"><div class=\"spoiler-title\">Focus Passage: Luke 13:22-30 (NIV)<\/div><div class=\"spoiler-content\"><p>\u00a0<sup class=\"versenum\" id=\"en-NIV-25533\">22<\/sup> Then Jesus went through the towns and villages, teaching as he made his way to Jerusalem.\u00a0<sup class=\"versenum\" id=\"en-NIV-25534\">23<\/sup> Someone asked him, \u201cLord, are only a few people going to be saved?\u201d\r\n<\/p><p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 He said to them, <sup class=\"versenum\" id=\"en-NIV-25535\">24<\/sup> \u201cMake every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to.\u00a0<sup class=\"versenum\" id=\"en-NIV-25536\">25<\/sup> Once the owner of the house gets up and closes the door, you will stand outside knocking and pleading, \u2018Sir, open the door for us.\u2019 <br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cBut he will answer, \u2018I don\u2019t know you or where you come from.\u2019 <\/p>\r\n<p>\u00a0<sup class=\"versenum\" id=\"en-NIV-25537\">26<\/sup> \u201cThen you will say, \u2018We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.\u2019 <\/p>\r\n<p>\u00a0<sup class=\"versenum\" id=\"en-NIV-25538\">27<\/sup> \u201cBut he will reply, \u2018I don\u2019t know you or where you come from. Away from me, all you evildoers!\u2019 <\/p>\r\n<p>\u00a0<sup class=\"versenum\" id=\"en-NIV-25539\">28<\/sup> \u201cThere will be weeping there, and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves thrown out.\u00a0<sup class=\"versenum\" id=\"en-NIV-25540\">29<\/sup> People will come from east and west and north and south, and will take their places at the feast in the kingdom of God.\u00a0<sup class=\"versenum\" id=\"en-NIV-25541\">30<\/sup> Indeed there are those who are last who will be first, and first who will be last.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"passage-read-more\">Read <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Luke 13:22-30&amp;version=niv\" title=\"Read the passage on BibleGateway.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"hyperlink-underlined\">Luke 13:22-30<\/a> in context and\/or in other translations on BibleGateway.com!<\/p><\/div><\/div>\r\n<p>Like most passages in these journal entries, there are numerous ideas that stand out to me. Today\u2019s entry is no exception. In this journal entry, we\u2019ll focus on one of these ideas and what it means for each of us.<\/p>\r\n<p>Probably the most unsettling verse in this passage is verse 25: <strong>\u201cOnce the owner of the house gets up and closes the door, you will stand outside knocking and pleading, \u2018Sir, open the door for us.\u2019 But he will answer, \u2018I don\u2019t know you or where you come from.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>This verse is very unsettling because it clearly shares that there will be a point in time where it will be too late to accept Christ. There will be people who thought they could wait, but then end up missing out.<\/p>\r\n<p>What makes verse 25 even more disturbing is how the people respond in verse 26: <strong>\u201cThen you will say, \u2018We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>The people who are left out are very familiar with Jesus. They know who He is and they seem to have spent time with Him, but something is missing, and that something is revealed in verse 27: <strong>\u201cBut he will reply, \u2018I don\u2019t know you or where you come from.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>This dialog leads us to the really big idea for this journal entry: <strong>It doesn\u2019t matter whether we know Jesus; what matters is that Jesus knows us!<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>This challenges the idea of \u201conce-saved-always-saved\u201d that many Christians believe, or the idea that a simple prayer is all it takes. Having eaten and drank with someone says that they knew each other at one point, but some point in the past doesn\u2019t mean that there is an on-going relationship in the present.<\/p>\r\n<p>This is a challenging thought for me, because it pushes me to be a lot more intentional about my time with Jesus. Quiet time is a start, but for it to be effective, it must be \u201cquiet time with Jesus\u201d. Busy time is inevitable, but instead, why not make it \u201cbusy time with Jesus\u201d. Sure the busyness might be jumping between work \u201cemergencies\u201d, but what would happen if you thought of it as time you are spending with Jesus, where the two of you are tackling the tasks together?<\/p>\r\n<p>This is a novel, mind-stretching thought. However with that said, remember our big idea: <strong>It doesn\u2019t matter whether you know Jesus; what matters is that Jesus knows you!<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<div id=\"aj-wrap-up--150\" class=\"aj-wrap-up\"><p><em>This thought was inspired by studying the <strong>Walking With Jesus<\/strong> \u201cReflective Bible Study\u201d package.
