{"id":104,"date":"2021-12-29T03:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-12-29T10:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/reflectivebiblestudy-cam.tempurl.host\/gospeladventure\/?p=104&2021"},"modified":"2021-12-27T17:00:28","modified_gmt":"2021-12-28T00:00:28","slug":"choosing-to-be-found-luke-15-1-10","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reflectivebiblestudy.com\/gospeladventure\/choosing-to-be-found-luke-15-1-10\/","title":{"rendered":"Choosing to be \u201cFound\u201d: Luke 15:1-10"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"spoiler spoiler-style-2\"><div class=\"spoiler-title\">Focus Passage: Luke 15:1-10 (NASB)<\/div><div class=\"spoiler-content\" style=\"display: none;\"><p><sup>1<\/sup>\u00a0Now all the tax collectors and the sinners were coming near Him to listen to Him. <sup>2<\/sup>\u00a0Both the Pharisees and the scribes <em>began<\/em> to grumble, saying, &#8220;This man receives sinners and eats with them.&#8221; <\/p><p><sup>3<\/sup>\u00a0So He told them this parable, saying, <sup>4<\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"red-letter\">&#8220;What man among you, if he has a hundred sheep and has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open pasture and go after the one which is lost until he finds it?<\/span> <sup>5<\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"red-letter\">When he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.<\/span> <sup>6<\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"red-letter\">And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, &#8216;Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!&#8217;<\/span> <sup>7<\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"red-letter\">I tell you that in the same way, there will be <em>more<\/em> joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.<\/span><\/p><p><sup>8<\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"red-letter\">&#8220;Or what woman, if she has ten silver coins and loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it?<\/span> <sup>9<\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"red-letter\">When she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, &#8216;Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin which I had lost!&#8217;<\/span> <sup>10<\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"red-letter\">In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.&#8221;<\/span><\/p><p class=\"passage-read-more\">Read <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=luke 15:1-10&amp;version=NASB\" title=\"Read the passage on BibleGateway.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"hyperlink-underlined\">Luke 15:1-10<\/a> in context and\/or in other translations on BibleGateway.com!<\/p><\/div><\/div>\r\n<p>In our passage for this journal entry, we will be looking at two short illustrations Jesus shares that let us know how excited things get in Heaven when sinners are saved. We read that they celebrate, and it is likely quite a party.<\/p>\r\n<p>Which brings us to the one thing we\u2019ll focus on today: <strong>\u201cthere will be\u00a0<em>more<\/em>\u00a0joy in heaven over one sinner who <span class=\"underline\">repents<\/span> than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.\u201d<\/strong> &amp; <strong>\u201cthere is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who <span class=\"underline\">repents<\/span>.\u201d <\/strong><em>(Verses 7, 10)<\/em><\/p>\r\n<p>One thing that stood out in this passage is the emphasis on repentance, which is another way to say acknowledging sin in our lives and turning away from it and turning towards Jesus, our Savior. Included in this turning away from sin is asking for forgiveness and recognizing our need for help \u2013 specifically help from our Savior. Repentance means leaving any and every sin in the past and looking to Jesus for the strength and ability to live a new, free life in Him.<\/p>\r\n<p>Too often we emphasize forgiveness and minimize repentance. Forgiveness is an act, a decision at a moment in time, while repentance starts as an act, but it is realized over a lifetime. Forgiveness is important. Repentance is essential.<\/p>\r\n<p>It seems to me that this passage places repentance on par with joining the family of God, which is equivalent to being \u201csaved\u201d. In these parables, Jesus is searching for things (i.e. people\/sinners) that are lost, and when they are found (i.e. saved\/restored), there is a celebration.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>The biggest difference between finding something like a sheep or a coin when compared with finding a person is that, in our case <em>(finding a person)<\/em>, we can choose whether to be found or to remain \u201clost\u201d. Jesus is always ready to find us and accept us back when we decide that we want to be found. We let Jesus know that we want to be \u201cfound\u201d by repenting \u2013 turning away from sin in our lives and looking to Him to help us move forward.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p><em>When we do, there is a celebration in Heaven!<\/em><\/p>\r\n<div id=\"aj-wrap-up--104\" class=\"aj-wrap-up\"><p><em>This thought was inspired by studying the <strong>Walking With Jesus<\/strong> \u201cReflective Bible Study\u201d package.
